The teaching community has not taken lying down the the humiliation meted out to the VC, pro-VC and other top brass of Patna University by the Nitish Kumar government. Only a couple of days back they were forced to return their salary of the month of November by human resources development department secretary, K K Pathak.
The Joint Struggle Committee of Federation of University Teachers’ Association of Bihar (FUTAB) and Federation of University Services Teacers’ Association of Bihar (FUSTAB) have decided to call a meeting on December 14 to launch a decisive struggle against the human resources development department secretary K K Pathak’s whimsical action.
They allege that the HRD is issuing illegal directives one after another just to humiliate the teaching community. At times the department is contradicting its own earlier order.
According to FUTAB working President Kanhiya Bahadur on a number of occasions in the past few years the HRD has itself had written to the University to meet the financial shortfall through internal resources. The budget of the University includes income generated through internal resources and the grant is released over and above that. The HRD should know this.
Teachers are shocked, dismayed and agitated over the way the top brass of the Patna University were forced to return their salary. Prof Nawal Kishore Chaudhary of department of Economics said that the University must protest the slave-like treatment meted out to the teachers by the Nitish Kumar government, which thinks that universities are its fiefdoms.
Directly attacking the chief minister he said that it is unfortunate that this is happening during the reign of the man who is himself a product of Emergency.
Former member, BPSC, Prof Shiv Jatan Thakur, said that even delay in salary payment is a punishable offence.
