Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Friday announced land ownership rights for women in families that do not own any, saying that the move aims to empower the weaker sex.
"The government has decided that land ownership rights of the land provided to landless families will be given to the woman of each family," Kumar said at a function here.
Kumar said the government decision will strengthen the women's position in the society.
"It will give them (women) more power," he said.
The state government has begun the process to provide land to the poorest of the poor and landless families in the state.
